It was another episode of the much loved Producer’s Pick, where equally deserving, fan-favorite entries that missed winning by mere millipoints get a second chance at victory.

Last Sunday witnessed the return of three compelling compositions from previous monthly finals namely, “Salamat Sa’Yo” by Jay Llamera ; “Dios na Dakila” by Lino Cajegas ; and “ Ang Pagmamahal Mo” by Dennis Avenido.

Resident critic, Mon “Doktor Musiko” del Rosario was joined once again by producer/composer Jimmy Antiporda and inspirational singer/composer Jamie Rivera.

First off was Jay Llamera’s “Salamat Sa’Yo” performed by Mark Douglas.  Judge Jimmy appreciated the commercial appeal with Jamie even recommending its inclusion in the album.

The second song was the pop jazz “Dios na Dakila” by Lino Cajegas and performed by Hans Dimayuga.  Although it has great movement in terms of melody and chords, Jimmy thought its genre might be a bit outdated. Other than that, the judges found the melodic and lyrical structure fit perfectly.

Finally, the last entry was “Ang Pagmamahal Mo” by Dennis Avenido and performed by music royalty Nino Alejandro.  Doc Mon found the chorus well-constructed and like the harmonic melodic surprise that gives it identity. His only issue was the fact that you cannot find the song’s title in any of the verses. On the other hand, Jimmy noted the chords of the second line in the verse sounded too familiar and reminiscent of another popular song that it may seem it was lifted from it. Jimmy suggested revising it to avoid suspicions.

Despite that minor setback, “Ang Pagmamahal Mo” still won the judges’ votes and the night’s title. Dennis Avenido and Nino Alejandro will be back for the monthly finals for a shot at the grand finale.
