Episode 191 / Aired on May 24
A genre seldom heard in the show was selected on Sunday as “song of the week” in the 4th weekly round of this month’s competition.
“Ikaw Na Lang Mag-Drive Ng Buhay Ko” is a country song by composer Rolan Delfin and interpreted by acoustic artist Melvin Sumalinog.
“I’m so happy and thankful to God because He guided me to write this song again. Before I start working on a song, I always pray to God that He will be with as I compose it,” shared Delfin.
Sumalinog related really well with the song, enabling him to deliver a sincere performance.
“Actually, the demo was very raw, but as a musician, I depend more on what my heart felt for the song, and not just the technical aspects. So, I truly felt the song.”
Judges hitmaker Jungee Marcelo, singer actress Isay Alvarez and Doktor Musiko Mon Del Rosario saw the song’s potential in becoming a hit song.
Rolan’s composition bested two other ballad genre songs – “Muli’t Muli Akong Aawit” by Febs Colibao and interpreted by Passage band vocalist Mark Laygo, and “Pangakong Walang Hanggan” by actor Joseph Ison and interpreted by The Voice Season 2 contender Mark Cando.
