MAY 17 EPISODE JUDGES (L-R): left_to_right_ MON DEL ROSARIO, TRINA BELAMIDE, JEFFREY HIDALGO – Photoville International

The music of professional songwriter Lino Cajegas nabbed the Song of the Week title at the third weekly finals of A Song of Praise or ASOP Music Festival on Sunday night.

This is Lino’s second time to join ASOP until finally succeeding with “Dios Na Dakila”  which was performed by Voice of the Philippines season 1 contender Hans Dimayuga.

One time ASOP interpreter Jeffrey Hidalgo and hit maker Trina Belamide both expressed their delight in being part of the program as guest judges.

“Masaya talagang maging judge for me.  Gusto ko talagang maging judge dati pa ‘di ba?   Masaya maging judge kasi mas madami akong natututunan hindi lang sa co-judges ko kundi pati dun sa mga songs na kasi…‘yung mga entries na jina-judge namin ngayon, ba’t-ibang genre; iba’t-ibang style,” said Jeffrey.

(It’s fun for me to be a judge. I’ve always wanted to be a judge. It’s fun because I learn a lot of things not only from my co-judges but also from the songs. The entries that we judge belong to different genres; different styles)

“Masaya. Super enjoy. Nakakatuwa makita na  ang dami palang composers at songwriters sa Pilipinas,”  added Trina. (It’s fun and super enjoyable. It’s nice to know that there are a lot of composers and songwriters in the Philippines)

Both were impressed by the entries and agree that the quality of the songs fit the Filipinos’ taste in music.  According to Trina, the pop and contemporary style of the ASOP’s praise songs effectively help send their message across.
