“Try and try until you succeed” as the old adage says. This has never been truer when Jay Alvin Consigo’s entry “Born to Praise You” won the 2nd Weekly Elimination of A Song of Praise (ASOP) Year 5 for the month of May.
Composer Jay Alvin Consigo had joined ASOP thrice. Among his three compositions, “Born to Praise You,” was unplanned, and was written during his leisure time at his job as a call center agent.
This intuitive composition bested tough competitors such as Kentrick Soriano’s “Ako’y Alipin Mo” performed by Kiko Ramos and ASOP Year 2 grand finalist Juvic Anne Capistrano’s “Ligaya sa Piling Niya” which was beautiful rendered by 2015 Karaoke World Champion Ruby Velano.
Judges Tina Paner, Carlo Orosa and Mon ‘Doktor Musiko’ del Rosario found it hard to choose a winner since all the entries were equally-deserving; each displayed a unique excellence. But “Born to Praise You” stood out for its colorful metaphors.
Consigo will be back to compete at the monthly finals for the month of May.
