Paanyaya-1 Paanyaya-2

ASOP has commenced its search for the 6th entry to the Grand Finals Night at the first weekly elimination for February. The first victory of the month was awarded to call center agent Euryville Requio for his festive song entitled, “Paanyaya ” (Invitation).

Euryville recounts seeing ASOP’s billboard everyday en route to work from Bulacan to Mandaluyong.  Eventually his curiosity got the better of him and started searching the show online.  He ended up being a fan of the show and decided to submit his own composition.

Inspired by the bible verse Psalm 150:6 “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord,” Euryville’s “Paanyaya,” is a joyful celebration of God’s glory performed with contagious enthusiasm by the group Voysing.  The upbeat melody and high energy rendition of “Paanyaya,” effectively wakes the room up; prompting Doc Mon del Rosario and his fellow judges veteran rocker Jet Pangan, and singer/actress Maricris Bermont-Garcia to bestow an impressive total score of 95%.

Euryville faced stiff competition as well with two other contenders of the night.  Here’s a recap of their performances:

Higit-Sa-Aking-Daigdig-2 Higit-Sa-Aking-Daigdig-1Joselito Caleon’s “Higit Sa Aking Daigdig”

Aside from his day job as a delivery boy, Joselito is a gifted lyricist.  A deep appreciation for God’s wonderful gift of creation prompted Joselito to compose “Higit sa Aking Daigdig;” a direct reference to God’s promise of paradise for the faithful.

Performed effortlessly by new recording artist Zendee, Doc Mon acknowledged Joselito’s advanced lyrical writing skills and gushed over golden lines such as, “paraiso mong naghihintay higit sa aking daigdig.” What was missing though was contrast in the melodic range of the chorus against other verses.  Joselito admits lowering the key so the interpreter can reach it.

Salamat-Panginoon-1

Salamat-Panginoon-2Wilfredo Ison’s “Salamat Panginoon”

Wilfredo is a family driver by profession and had not written a song in his life until he decided to join ASOP.  Clueless on how to begin, he applied everything he learned from watching the show.  His wife helped him along the way by laying out the music.

“Salamat Panginoon” is the inspiring result of their husband and wife collaboration. It was performed beautifully by up and coming balladeer Miguel Aguila who effectively expressed the song’s message of thanksgiving.  The judges agree that its strongest point is the melody.  Over all, the song was a straight forward impressive piece for a first-time composer.
