Episode 184/ Aired March 29
Fresh from its win from the Producer’s Pick episode, the power ballad “Kung Pag-Ibig Mo’y Ulan” makes it into this year’s grand finals after winning Song of the Month.
It is worth noting that the Songs of the Year for two consecutive years have been power ballads. This latest qualifier may easily give early finalists a run for their money.
According to composer Christian Malinias who hails from Baguio, he was able to write “Kung Pag-Ibig Mo’y Ulan” after listening to ASOP 2014 Song of the Year “May Awa Ang Dios.”
“Masaya na ‘ko kasi maipaparinig uli ‘yung song. Kumbaga ‘yung mga winnings ngayon bonus na lang ‘yon. And masaya ako kasi eto… dumating ‘tong time na ‘to para mai-share ko sa mas malawak na audience and ‘yun ang exciting du’n about sa grand finals. Ilang kaluluwa ang nandun sa araneta, (I am happy because the song gets played again. The winnings are just a bonus. What I’m happy about is the opportunity to share it with a wider audience; that’s what’s exciting about the grand finals. Just the number of souls that will be in Araneta),” enthused Malinias.
“Kung Pag-Ibig Mo’y Ulan” beat three other genres, namely the rock ballad “Sa Piling Mo’y Langit,” the bossa nova inspired “Ikaw Ang Musika,” and another power ballad “ Awit Kong Dasal.”
Guest judge Ramon Christopher Gutierrez found the ASOP experience an inspiring one. He was particularly amazed at the process of transformation each composition goes through, such as hearing the entry for the first time and hearing it again in its final form after adopting the judges’ advice.
