Last Sunday’s episode of A Song of Praise (ASOP) Music Festival Year 5 witnessed another tough musical battle on its 2nd weekly finals for the month of April. The quality of the song entries made it seem like it was already the Monthly Finals, so said by Mon ‘Doktor Musiko’ del Rosario.
Dok Mon was once again joined by Dingdong Avanzado and soul diva, Jaya who was enjoying their stint as guest judges because it makes them feel blessed.
Getting tired of mainstream, ‘worldly’ songs, LJ Manzano tried anew with his Pop-RNB praise song, “Pag-ibig Ka, Oh Dios.” Manzano’s original was interpreted by all-male trio, JBK which stands for the trio’s first name, Joshua, Bryan and Kim.
For Dingdong, this is the kind of song you hear on the radio. Jaya lauded its easy recall. Dok Mon commended on the sincerity of the song from the beginning up to the last line.
Second entry was Emy Zenny Cris Gabato’s “Salita Mo’y Aking Gabay at Liwanag” which came to life in a soaring performance by Apple Delleva.
The title of Gabato’s composition is as lengthy as her first name. Also, judges noticed superfluous words in its lyrics that he could do away with. But all in all, it was a good song.
More inspired than before, Genio Dy has, again, set foot on ASOP stage for the third time to grab the elusive victory. He considered the judges’ comments on his previous piece to make improvements on his new one, “You Are Always There” which was performed by Jan Nieto.
All entries were deemed tough contenders. The entry with the least error wins. And it was… *drum roll*
